After a career in the police spanning 37 years, Steve retired as an Assistant Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police at the end of 2003. He had served in a number of roles throughout both Counties including as-the divisional commander for Plymouth. He was awarded the Queens Police Medal for his work in supporting the communities of Devon and Cornwall and shortly after retirement he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon.
Since retiring from the Police, he has been involved with a number of local voluntary and charitable organisations including Victim Support, Plymouth Race Equality Council and as a Governor at the University of Plymouth.
He is currently a Trustee of Hamoaze, a drugs and alcohol rehabilitation charity in Devonport; Crimestoppers, and a Trustee of Plymouth Drake Foundation.
