Tavistock Guildhall Heritage Centre ‘Crime & Punishment Month’

March 2026 sees another gripping month of talks at the historic Guildhall building in Tavistock, exploring crime, justice and the darker side of history — including the special “Keeping the King’s Peace” exhibition in the Robing Room.

📅 Friday 6th March – “CSI and Beyond”

By forensic specialists Amy and Clare. Discover how real life forensic investigation works and how it compares to what we see on screen.

📅 Friday 13th March – “A Deadly Element: The Arsenic Murders”

Andrea Tester (Museum of Policing in Devon & Cornwall) reveals chilling cases where arsenic was used to devastating effect.

📅 Friday 20th March – “Dartmoor Prison History Talk”

Paul Finegan, Curator at Dartmoor Prison Museum, explores 200+ years of Britain’s most notorious prison and separates fact from myth.

📅 Friday 27th March – “The Fair Arm of the Law”

Simon Dell, former police officer and police historian, looks at the founding of the Policewomen’s Department in 1915. Discover how the Suffragette movement, the Great War and social change shaped early women’s policing, and celebrate the pioneering women who transformed policing in the peninsula.

🕖 Doors open 6pm, and talks start at 7pm on all occasions.
